Dear McAuliffe Families,

I’m excited to announce McAuliffe’s school calendar and hours for the 2019-20 school year! I’m especially pleased to share that our 2019-20 calendar and schedule result from the input we gathered from families, scholars, and faculty as well as meaningful collaboration with Framingham Public School leaders.

As you may have seen, Framingham recently announced the addition of fifteen minutes to their bell schedule for elementary schools. This change impacts Framingham’s ability to pick up McAuliffe scholars at our current dismissal time of 3:30pm. Committed to collaborating with Framingham, McAuliffe leaders have been working with district leaders to come up with a mutually beneficial resolution. The problem-solving prompted us to come up with a schedule (Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 2:30pm for students) that resolves the transportation conflict and aligns with our mission and program. After reviewing community feedback and budgetary implications, the Board of Trustees voted to move forward with the schedule change. McAuliffe has also received approval from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to implement changes to our 2019-20 schedule.

Outlined below you’ll find information about McAuliffe’s 2019-20 school calendar, school day/schedule, Framingham bus transportation (including a late bus!), and afterschool programming (including access to Fuller Middle School’s theatre program!).

School Calendar:

McAuliffe’s 2019-20 school calendar mostly aligns with the Framingham Public School 2019-20 calendar. Our first and 180th days of school mirror Framingham’s calendar as well as holidays, vacations, and professional days. McAuliffe’s school calendar also includes ten early release days, two of which are reserved for student-led conferences.

School Day/Schedule:

Scholars’ school day will begin at 8:00am and finish at 2:30pm Monday through Friday. Scholars may be dropped off between 7:45am and 8:00am.  The time for early release days is still TBD by Framingham based on the bus availability. When we have that information it will be shared with families. On early release days, scholars will be dismissed at **:**am. Each morning will begin with either a 15-minute or 50-minute session of Crew. Scholars will have five 60-minute classes per day as well as a 20-minute lunch and 20-minute recess. On some days, scholars will have a 35-minute session of Lab, our intervention/extension block. Click here to view a draft of a sample student schedule.

Framingham Bus Transportation:

In our work with Framingham, a mutual goal has been to resolve transportation issues around late school bus arrivals and departures. Buses are expected to drop off eligible riders between 7:45am and 8:00am and pick up eligible riders within fifteen minutes after dismissal. Framingham will also provide a late bus each day of the week to transport eligible riders who participate in afterschool programming. The late bus will pick up students between 5:00pm and 5:15pm each day of the week. There will be no late bus on early dismissal or half days. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) articulates the terms of an agreement between McAuliffe and Framingham Public Schools including bus drop off and pick-up times. Note: Framingham bus applications must be submitted to McAuliffe by June 10, 2019.

Afterschool Programming (Athletics & Enrichment):

Understanding that a 2:30pm dismissal may be difficult for some of our families, we encourage scholars to register for afterschool enrichment or athletics programming. McAuliffe will offer afterschool activities Monday – Friday, 2:30pm – 5:00pm, except on early dismissal or half days. We’re in the process of hiring a new enrichment coordinator whose sole job will be to run the afterschool enrichment program. Mr. Dao will continue to serve as our athletics coordinator. Additionally, we are excited to announce that beginning next year, McAuliffe scholars will be eligible to audition for Fuller Middle School theatre productions! Information about fall enrichment programming will be sent to families over the summer. If you are interested in leading an enrichment activity next year or know of a group or individual that may be interested, please contact Mara Gorden, Director of Community Development & Operations at

I appreciate families, scholars, and faculty who contributed to the decision-making process regarding our new school times and calendar. I also appreciate the professionals at Framingham Public Schools for engaging in a collaborative process with McAuliffe school and Board of Trustee leaders.
