McAuliffe FAQ’s

McAuliffe is a public charter school and a credentialed EL Education school. McAuliffe is not a part of Framingham Public Schools but rather is another middle school option in the city.

McAuliffe serves grade 6-8, and creates a rigorous and differentiated curriculum to serve all learning levels and styles.

McAuliffe is a regional district including the following cities/towns: Ashland, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Marlborough, Natick, Southborough, and Sudbury. Applicants who live in these cities and towns have the same likelihood of being accepted. The one exception is that applicants who have a sibling currently attending the school have first priority in the lottery. Families who live outside of our region are welcome to apply; however, regional families are given priority.

If your family lives in Framingham, your child may be eligible to receive busing from the Framingham district. We send bus applications out in the Spring; these should be returned directly to McAuliffe. Families who are not eligible per Framingham guidelines may apply for transportation as ineligible riders. Many regional families carpool to and from the school. We support carpooling by connecting families who live in the same or nearby towns with one another. This typically happens over the summer.

McAuliffe charges a Resource Fee which helps to defray the cost of both overnight fieldwork as well as technology. Additional fees are charged for participation in athlectics and enrichment. Financial assistance is available upon request.

The school day starts at 8:00am. Scholars can be dropped off beginning at 7:45am. Scholars are dismissed at 2:30pm. After School Enrichment and Athletics programming runs five days a week. There are ten half days per school year and the dismissal time is at 11:30. No Enrichment is offered on half days.

Our average class size is 18 scholars. Nearly all of our classes run with a co-teacher model including one General Education teacher and one Special Educator or Instructional Aide. Every class is differentiated to suit your scholar’s needs. Classes are typically 55 minutes long, with “long blocks” for each core subject once a week. All of our curriculum is aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the Common Core State Standards and based on EL Education.

Every scholar belongs to a Crew of 11-12 scholars and one teacher (Crew Leader).

McAuliffe fills seats through a public lottery process. Click to apply.

McAuliffe accepts applications for students entering grades 6, 7, and 8 each year, and awards seats based on the results of the annual admissions lottery as well as seat availability. Click here for more information.

Yes. McAuliffe is a public charter school so we are responsible for providing special education services and accommodations to students who have scholars with Individualized Education Programs (IEPsS) or 504 plans. McAuliffe is responsible for providing comparable services. Upon enrolling your child, we ask that you submit a copy of their current IEP or 504 plan so that we can  plan ahead on how to best support your child.

Yes! McAuliffe is a public school district and, as such, we are responsible for providing support to students who are learning English. Educational services are based on the individual needs of the student. Services are designed to minimize barriers to education and extracurricular activities and to provide appropriate education in the least restrictive learning environment. Click here to learn more about our English learning program.
Parents, guardians, and community members are encouraged to participate in our Parent Teacher Group. Our school, like all charter public schools, is governed by a Board of Trustees, which operates like the Board of a Non-Profit Organization, and oversees functions like a School Committee.
